Pro Tools 101 [ Introduction to Pro Tools ]

The Introduction to Pro Tools course covers basic Pro Tools principles, giving you everything you need to complete a Pro Tools project, from initial set up to final mixdown. This course focuses on Pro Tools 8 software and covers a multitude of new functions and feature enhancements. Whether your project involves recording of live instruments, MIDI sequencing of software synthesizers, audio editing or region looping, this course will give you the basic skills to succeed.

This course covers the core concepts and skills needed to operate  Pro Tools in a professional studio environment. The course continues to build on the fundamental concepts and topics covered in the Pro Tools 100-series of courses.

Prerequisites

Completion of Pro Tools 101 is required prior to beginning this course.

Digital Video Editing

This course explores techniques that can be applied in a range of non-linear editing programs, including: Final Cut, iMovie, Sony Vegas, LiveType and Vision Lab Studio. Yet the main focus is not just on developing software skills—it’s on exploring the magic behind video editing. Challenging projects include editing a commercial, an interview, a narrative scene, a music video, a video diary, and a text title sequence.

Section 1 - Intro To Video Editing

• Getting Started with Final Cut and iMovie: The Editing Process, FCE Suit, Sony Vegas, The importance of planning, Adjusting preferences
  
• Understanding the Interface: Overviews of Browser Window, Viewer, Canvas, Timeline, Tools and Audio Meters, Configuring the workspace; Editing samples

Section 2 - Importing and Organizing

• Importing Your Footage: Importing from cameras, Importing audio files from CDs, Importing photos, Using iPhoto, Importing an iMovie project
• Organizing Your Story: Going beyond, Selecting clips, Creating subclips, Using markers, Deleting clips, Storyboard editing, Making a three-point edit, Assembling a rough cut.

Section 3 - Precise Cuts and Intro To Audio Editing

• Trimming Your Story: The trimming tools, Using multiple tracks to edit, The Trim Edit window, Dynamic JKL trimming, Keeping in sync while trimming
  
• Editing Audio: Editing audio overview, Setting audio levels, Panning audio, Creating audio transitions, Narrating with the Voice-over tool, Essential audio filters

Section 4 - Transitions and Titles

Section 5 - Green Screen Compositing and Vector Animation

• Using LiveType, Vision Lab Studio and iMovie: students will composite footage using Chroma Key plug-ins, Incorporate animated vector graphics in green screen footage, Blend special effects with raw footage using Vision Lab Studio.
